About Us

The London Youth Trust (LYT) is a long standing London based Charitable Trust that provides for three distinct levels of targeted grants to support the development of young people in London.

What does LYT do?
We will fund the following levels of Awards:

  • Bursaries to enable young people to undertake an accredited leadership or citizenship award.
  • Scholarships to enable existing young adult leaders to undertake an accredited leadership or instructor qualification.
  • Fellowships to allow existing adult leaders to undertake formal research or investigation into a youthwork related area.

How does the LYT gain funds to support these activities?
We raise money through appeals, applications to other organisations and fundraising events. The Trust uses invested money, originally raised on the 1974 sale of a building which belonged to the erstwhile W.H. Smith Memorial Institute, to pay the small administrative and daily running costs covering expenses of volunteer officers, the support of a part time office and periodic meetings of volunteer workers and the Board of Trustees. This means that 100% of the money raised by the Trust is used to fund ongoing support to London youth.

The LYT Board comprises up to ten Trustees drawn from religious, political, legal, educational, charitable and business areas of life. They meet once every quarter, and also work together in smaller sub-committees. HRH The Princess Royal has graciously consented to be The Royal Patron, whilst significant religious, political and community leaders are Patrons. The daily running of the Trust is undertaken by the Chairman and Chief Executive, both of whom are members of the Board of Trustees and, therefore, volunteers.
